Is it possible that doing math problems can reduce ear pain (neuralgic)?

I've been having really bad pain in my left ear, went to see the doctor, had CT done and everything they said it's just neuralgia. But, it only gets better when i'm playing this math game on iPad, it's simple adding and subtracting. Is it possible that if you don't use the logic/math part of your brain, it causes pain????
